Run SQL 2005 if at all possible. And if you do, run the 64 bit version
if at all possible. MOSS works with SQL 2000. Mainly you lose the
Reporting Services integration and the Analysis Services. Outside the
scope of MOSS SQL 2005 is better because it supports things like
database mirroring, compression, using SMTP to send email, better
management, etc.

Like I said, if at all possible, I recommend SQL 2005.

You can installl the moss2007 with Sqlserver 2000 if and only if you have
sqlserver applied with service pack 3
and It will not result in to any loss of functionality
No special material is required for for it... while configuring sharepoint
server just provide the sqlserver2000 details as asked by configuraion wizard

Say it is possible, but why would you want to? If you answer is
because of budget constraint or lack of funds, then I think that you
should look into another solutions, other than a MOSS environment.

I assume that the purpose of the MOSS environment would be to house
data. If your table structure were to become corrupt, that would be
an expensive recovery that would have been cheaper to go the other
route. (Please no assume jokes).

I am curious if you have a different answer.
