Do I need MOSS 2007 Server to Learn Sharepoint?

Asked By: Shonda    Date: Apr 04    Category: MOSS    Views: 665

I have Sharepoint 3.0 installed on a Dell Poweredge server with Windows
2003 Server(Standard Edition) SP3. Do I need to install MOSS 2007
Server also to learn Sharepoint? I have not found any documentation
that tells me that I must have MOSS 2007 Server installed first than
install Sharepoint 3.0.

I assume by sharepoint  3 that you mean Windows SharePoint
Services. This is the *free* part of the SharePoint technologies. You can
learn "SharePoint" as you put it by using WSS v3 but that is not all of
SharePoint. MOSS2007 gives you all the overarching features for building
Intranets, External Websites, Searching, Forms Services and connecting to
backend system such as a database. All of these can only be got from
MOSS2007. Firstly you need to work out what you want to learn, but my advice
is install MOSS2007 and learn  the full product not just the *free* lite
