MOSS 2007 Search Scopes

Asked By: Tracie    Date: Aug 12    Category: MOSS    Views: 800

Given the scenario in which there is a district level site and an intranet site,
is it possible to filter search results so that:
1. someone searching in the district site cannot see any results from the
intranet site
2. someone searching from the intranet site cannot see results from the district

In this scenario, an authenticated user may indeed have access to both the
district and the intranet, but we still segregate results..

Yes, you can define two "search scopes" in MOSS, one for content in the
"district site" and one for the "intranet site". If they are separate site
collections, you can set the default scope in the dropdown in each site
collection to be the scope for that site collection.

You can also customise the search  results page in the search center in each site
collection to restrict results to that site collection's scope.
