MOSS 2007 - "Save site as template" choice

Asked By: Mercedes    Date: Jan 05    Category: MOSS    Views: 954

Under "Site Settings" and "Look and Feel" the "Save site as template" choice
disappears when I activate the "Office SharePoint Server Publishing" feature.

Is it not possible to save the site as a template with this feature activated

You can use sharepoint designer to save  as template  or alternatively you can use
_layouts/savetmpl.aspx to save the template.

But I am not sure the resulting template will have the Enterprise features

I fixed it with _layouts/savetmpl.aspx and the Publishing feature was activated
in the new site  I created with my new template.

this choice  disappears by design. There are known issues with using site
templates created with Publishing features enabled. While what you outline
might seem to work, chances are you'll run into problems down the road.

So the best way is to save  the template  without Publishing feature enabled? Am I
