MOSS 2007 profile import errors

(this was also posted on the microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver
newsgroup)

After installing MOSS 2007 Beta 2 TR (via slipstream method),
everything seems to be working fine except for profile imports. I had
installed the beta on another server before TR and the profile import
worked. The main error I get when I try to import the current domain
is "The filtering process has been terminated". When viewing the
import log, I see the following 2 line items:

1. URL: spsimport://c72ed4cb-f7a0-491a-b447-8ceb30cdbf97
The filtering process has been terminated
Last Content Source: PEOPLE_IMPORT
Last Time Crawled: 10/19/2006 12:18 PM
2. URL: spsimport://$$dl$$
The filtering process has been terminated
Last Content Source: PEOPLE_DL_IMPORT
Last Time Crawled: 10/19/2006 12:18 PM

Everytime I try a full import, the application event log shows the
following:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Office Server Search
Event Category: Gatherer
Event ID: 2436
Date: 10/19/2006
Time: 12:18:23 PM

I turned on verbose trace logging for all events before running that
import and these are the lines I found interesting:
10/19/2006 12:18:23.32 mssdmn.exe (0x1EE0)
0x1F60 Search Server Common FilterDaemon

I would very much like to have someone's help on this. I have
reinstalled Windows Server 2003 and MOSS 2007 beta 2 TR, but I still
get this error.

You are doing better than I am.

I am still getting messages that I cannot connect to the database.
