MOSS 2007 in distributed organization

Asked By: Grace    Date: Apr 24    Category: MOSS    Views: 783

Has anyone found some information about MOSS2007 in a distributed
organization? We have a customer who has offices in China, US, Europe.
They want to install their MOSS2007 server in Europe and want to work
in project teams around the world. Problem is that they have
connections issues and transfering a file to China is too slow. They
now work with some kind of replication overnight.
Did someone find any articles if MOSS2007 has a solution for this? Is
it possible to replicate some data?

It does, but I don't have any details. I do know that it is a one way
replication, not a merge replication. Beyond that, it is too
administration oriented for me...

SQL server replication involving SharePoint 2003 was a complete
nightmare and even though it was unsupported I endured many hours of
effort to make this work through multiple avenues of replication:
merge, transactional, snapshot (SQL 2005). Although I was somewhat
successfull in replicating some if not most of the data I would not
recommend this in ANY organization  because well its inconsistent
results and its unsupported by Microsoft. To the best of my
knowledge this has not changed in MOSS 2007. Which IMHO is a shame
because in this day and age where the web is used everywhere I am not
sure why this wasn't planned for. Looks like we really have to
scream this time in order to get heard.

Your only option is 3rd part vendors that offer WAN acceleration
products such as Syntergy and IOra which are not very cheap and
require some additional hardware.

I hope that this gives you some valuable insight. Feel free to ask
any further questions that you might have.

Content Deployment can be scheduled and selective.

After first deployment, the default is that everything else is differential.
