MOSS 2007 Directory management Services

Asked By: Madhavi    Date: Jun 26    Category: MOSS    Views: 991

We are implementing MOSS2007 and I was wondering what the downsides to
using Directory management Services are if there are any.

I'm exploring this too, so keep an eye out for updates on the list.

DMS is a little hard to wrap your brain around to begin with.

Also, I think one of the drawbacks is that there is only one OU
configurable within which to keep all your distribution lists and
contacts.

If there are specific security concerns in directly manipulating the
directory, I imagine you could always roll your own web service, since
there is a place for a custom URL in DMS configuration.

I've had some trouble with the distribution list approval library
sometimes I can't delete something off the list and it just remains in
limbo either because of synchronization issues between the list and AD,
or some other random quirk.

If you add an email address from within MOSS and then remove or
manipulate it within your directory, there can be some strange errors
when changing library settings. Often times I've added a security group
and associated a distribution group, then deleted the distribution
group, and I can no longer maintain the security group because of an
error on the page.

Strange things start happening but if you watch it close it is a pretty
slick feature.
