moss 2007 development

Asked By: Jackie    Date: Jan 25    Category: MOSS    Views: 562

My organization is new to MOSS and MOSS development. We are getting
ready to deploy organization wide at the end of this month and will be
putting out a very vanilla version of SharePoint.

We have been challanged with some possible workflow solutions that hook
into Sharepoint using web parts. We have seen a demo of a product by
Captaris that utilized workflow and ties it into Sharepoint using a web
part. We are on a limited budget and will not be purchasing the product.

We have access to VS2005 developers, but none have ever programmed for
the SharePoint environment. Can someone please tell us what is needed
to get the developers ready for sharepoint development as far as
software, (SDKs, etc) or point us to any documentation on setting up
the development environment for sharepoint. Does VS2005 need to be
installed on the MOSS box or can it be installed on individual pc's?
What else needs to be installed on the development pc?

Sorry for all the questions, but I have no idea where to begin on this.

To do sharepoint development, developers need to sit on the Win 2K3 Server OS
that has WSS/MOSS, SQL Server express edition and Visual Studio.

You can develop with VS2005 on the desktop PCs, but it is almost
impossible to debug in the manner they are accustomed to. So development
becomes very unproductive.

Our developers all have virtual PCs that sit on their desktop and run
Win 2k3 server and MOSS on the virtual PCs, along with VS2005. That's
been the most productive solution for us.

VS2005 installed on the MOSS Server box will be an ideal situation but if number
of developers are more then you still work on your own PC
All you need is
VS 2005
.Net Framework 3.0
VS 2005 extensions for net 3.0

Reference to Core Sharepoint DLL's

Ofcourse once the DLL is built then you can install it in the GAC of the MOSS
Server
