Modifying the built-in Workflows

If my investigations are correct, it is not possible to modify the the
built-in workflows like "Major Version Approval" from SPD. Is there
anywhere to access these as tempaltes to create new workflows, or has
anyone got these workflows modelled out in the Workflow designer in SPD?
