Modify someone else's My Site "My Home" page

Asked By: Umesh    Date: Oct 28    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 3824

We want our builders to be able to customize our business users' "My Home" page
on their My Site.

We have My Sites configured to create a site collection per My Site (I believe
this is a best practice). I've tried making myself a Site Collection admin on an
individual user's My Site, but when I try to go to that person's My Site I get
redirected to _layouts/viewlsts.aspx when I try to go to the site. I assume
this is because there's a PersonalSpaceRedirect control in default.aspx (which I
haven't found much info on).

Even when I try to look at the default.aspx in his My Site using SPD I get an
error which says "Object moved/n Objeect moved to here."

Any ideas on how we can modify other users' "My Home" pages, besides logging in
as them?

You won't be able to edit another user's MySite home  page. There is logic
built-in to the page  that will automatically redirect anyone trying to access
the page, other than the original owner, to the public view of that user's page.
As you've already seen, even if you are the secondary MySite administrator you
can't reach the actual home page for the site, only the View all site  content
page. This is part of the way that the Mysite home page is designed.
