Missing Content on My Site Private Views

Asked By: Marcella    Date: May 28    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 979

Two days ago I rebooted both my SQL server & my portal server.
(That's the extent of my farm.) The reason I rebooted both was to
clear out a hung process in my SPS Backup/Restore utility. SPS seems
to hold on to finished processes after backing up. I find myself
doing manual backups often because my scheduled task that is
supposed to do the backups usually doesn't run because SPS says that
another process still exists.

Anyway, I find myself rebooting these machines every now and then
with no issues. But after this time, a few people informed me that
their content within their private site views was missing, including
mine. The only thing I can think if is that these people may have
been on their siites when I rebooted the portal server. But I really
don't think that is the issue. I was not in My Site & my stuff is
gone.

I would try re-installing the service packs to see if one of the binary
files gets fixed. Otherwise, a call to PSS would be in order.

Just upgrade both WSS and SPS to SP2 and see if that works.

Before I upgrade to SP2, I have one more scenario for you.

To recap, I can;

- delete the portal  in the List & Manage Portal site  Page

- open SPS Backup/Restore Utility & browse to the SPS backup,

- edit the restore criteria to point to the test portal which requires dropping the existing _site, _serv & _prof databases

- but leaving the config_db, and everything is back.

I can also delete my site on the test portal and restore it from AvePoint’s DocAve product with no problem.

I should be able to use DocAve to restore my site to production but I only get back my public view & not my private  view of my site.

Apparently this issue  revolves around the config_db database. But I don’t want to blow away our production portal & restore from last week just to get back a few my site private views. I was thinking of restoring a backup of the config_db from the day before this all started happening & then restoring my site from Docave. If I apply SPS SP2 before restoring this config_db, do you see this causing any further complications?
