Minimum permissions required to administrate SPS2003\WSS2

What minimum NTFS permissions are required to administrate SPS2003/WSS2? And by “administration” I mean:

Operations has decided to revoke local admin access on all application servers for non-operations staff (including web/sppt admins!), so I need to know if I can do my job without it.

I’m not sure how broad to interpret “configuration” and “maintain”, but if you’re talking anything in Central Administration, then you’ll need to be the SharePoint Administrator on your farm (assigned in Central Administration) and local  administrator on the box if you need to work with IIS/app pools and any other operating system services, such as starting/stopping SharePoint services in Control Panel/Services.
