Migration from Sharepoint 2001 to sharepoint 2003

I am relatively a novice on sharepoint. My organization is
having an intranet based on Viewpoint(sharepoint 2001) already
installed and in use. There is a hell lot of stuff in that site .

I want to migrate this viewpoint site to sharepoint 2003 portal
server. Please give me some directions on how i should proceed for

I am doing the same thing right now.

First of all I would get a developement server to play
with so if you don't get it right the first time you
can blow it away and start again. Use the backup and
restore that comes with SharePoint to restore the
development website.

There are a number of tools..there is a good section
in the back of SharePoint Resources Kit.

Every site is different familiarize yourself with the
tools available from MS first.

There are tools for buy in excess of 17K..
