Migration plans for going from WSS 2.0 to MOSS 2007

Asked By: Rikki    Date: Sep 18    Category: MOSS    Views: 1250

What has anyone done about migration from WSS 2.0 to a MOSS 2007? Manual
process? 3rd Party tools?

The best way in my experience is for everyone to identify what
they want to keep and move it over themselves. If they have a lot of
content, then some sort of migration  tool might be helpful, but it's a good
time to clean house and also get everyone on board with the new taxonomy (if
yours needs to be overhauled, which it usually does after one's first
SharePoint deployment).

We recently had this same challenge and the manual move was used. We also used
some custom code, but we would have been much better off just having users
migrate their own content.

We also had a recent move like this and we used Metalogix migration
manager. It worked very well, but is not cheap.

If you have a significant amount to migrate, I agree that Metalogix SharePoint
Migration Manager works very well. I used it to move roughly 90 sites from
SP2003 to MOSS 2007 and it was fantastic.
It also allows you to move from one MOSS site collection to another, so I use it
for moving from Test to Production. That helps take the sting out of the price.

Does this product migrate your SPD workflows correctly?

Answer #6    Answered By: Duane Walton     Answered On: Sep 18

We did not have and SPD workflows at the time of migration. I no longer
have the product or I would offer to test for you.

The product is designed to migrate from SharePoint 2003 to SharePoint 2007.
Workflows didn't exist in 2003 so there is nothing to migrate.

I believe these tools will also migrate 2007 on one farm to 2007 on another
too... I don't think the tool is just for migrating upwards.
