Migration of just 1 top level site from 03 to 07

Asked By: Larissa    Date: May 06    Category: MOSS    Views: 1005

I have completed an upgrade of SPS03 to MOSS07. Aside from a few
hiccups and customizations going a little nuts all is working pretty
well. Now I have a top level site on another 03 farm that I would
like to migrate into the new MOSS instance as a top level site in one
of the applications which were upgraded. I hope this isn't a Doh!
answer. Is there any way to do this? I have read and read and feel a
little confused. Will stsadm do the trick and, if so, can I use the
03 stsadm to backup and the 07 stsadm to restore? Or do I have to
upgrade the existing application to 07, using gradual, upgrade that
site and then backup and restore to the new farm? I am REALLY leery
of touching the old instance in any way shape or form because it is
our workhorse so if there is a way I can just get that one site out
of there and into the new instance without upgrading I would be much
appreciative of some guidance. Sidebar - would a frontpage backup
and restore work? Haven't done one in ages but was wondering if that
was still an option.

Lastly, please dont feel you have to walk me through this. If the
answer is out there and I have somehow overlooked it, please just
point me to the proper link and I will read and migrate away.
(although I only have (WOOOHOOOO! my daughter just brought my MOSS
posters upstairs THANKS GUYS for creating these) 24 hours to get that
site over which is why I'm asking and why I'm hoping it can be done
without the upgrade. Piss poor planning make for poor portals as we
all know...

We are trying something similar with a complete WSS site  from a v2
farm to v3 on a different application server, same SQL instance. The
upgrade to the 07 farm  completes successfully (according to the
upgrade log) however the site will not render and returns this http
HTTP/1.1 404 Connection: close Date: Fri, 02 Feb 2007 07:06:36 GMT
Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET

We cannot find any other errors, SQL, Event log, etc to troubleshoot.

Ideas appreciated and agree with PPP makes for PP!

Answer to my question - can't do it. The only way is to do an install
of MOSS and perform a gradual upgrade. If you try to use FP2003 or
SharePoint Designer it will only create fwp files which are not
compatible with MOSS 07. SMigrate files cannot be imported or restored
without crashing due to multiple errors as well. If I'm wrong, correct
me, but my tests have brought the above results. Wish I am wrong,
don't want to add/install anything to the production environment at
