Migrating files accross two SharePoint sites

Asked By: Aiesha Amin         Date: May 05, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 479

I am migrating files/folders accross two Sharepoint(2003)sites.

I am able to do this by opening both sites in Windows Explorer by simply copying

from:
\\sharepoint.mycompany.com\sites\site1
to:
\\sharepoint.mycompany.com\sites\site2

My question:
When I copy folders, it changes the "modified by" and "modified time". Hence, I
am losing the author name of the document and the timestamp.

How do I preserve "modified by" and "modified time" while copying/mitrating
files across sites in Sharepoint 2003?

If you use this procedure, you will loose all meta data associated with the
files. Of it doesn't matter, you can do it that way. If you need to retain the
meta data, then you will want to use a third party tool such as by Metalogiz.
This is what I use to migrate from 2003 to 2007 & it worked like a charm.
