Mapping rules  allow you to override how search result links are
displayed in the dashboard site or how content is accessed when an
index is built.
It has four sections which are as follows

Access location
Use this field to specify where the server should access information
for this site.

To configure an access location, in the Access Location field, type
the path where you want SharePoint Portal Server to search for
information. This is the content source address. A sample access
location is \\server\localhost\public folders\Workspaces\SharePoint
Portal Server.

Display location
Use this field to specify the access location address, as you want it
displayed in the dashboard site.

To configure the display location, in the Display Location field,
type the access location address as you want to display it. A sample
display location is http://Adventureworks/server/. After typing the
location address, click Add.

This field displays a list of access locations and display location

Use this control to remove an access location mapping.

To remove a mapping  rule, select the access location and display
location in the Mappings field, click Remove, and then click Yes.
