Mapping network drive - MOSS automatically checking document out

Asked By: Johanna Byrd         Date: Mar 14, 2007      Category: MOSS      Views: 452

I've mapped a network drive in XP to access our MOSS 2007 document
libraries. When I upload a document using Windows Explorer - it
automatically checks out the document to me. Note of our document
libraries have required check-out or versioning turned on. Is there a
way to configure MOSS to not automatically check out a document? (I
also noticed that in using SharePoint Designer recently, that MOSS
seemed to prefer to check out the document to me without asking me,
and then required me to go through the SP interface itself to check
the document back in - which is annoying, to say the least.)

From what I understand from reading a related post in this group, it
that there is no way to do that.

We figured out that because we were *requiring* a special "column" -
and we were uploading in a way that didn't ask for a column, that it
was automatically  checking the documents out because they were missing
the "column" data. Which makes perfect sense now. So, we temporarily
turned off "Require that this column contains information" and now we
can upload files in bulk without them being automatically checked out.
