Mapping MOSS site to a subdomain

Asked By: Dontae    Date: Jan 17    Category: MOSS    Views: 786

I have a moss site that has a deep site architecture. I need to map a
deep subsite to a subdomain and can't figure out how to make it work.

I want to map
www.mydomain.com/.../default.aspx
to
http://site3.mydomain.com/

I looked at managed paths and as far as I could tell I couldn't do
that. Has anyone solved this issue before?

You can't find it because it can't be done. At least not out of the
box. The best you can do is to set up a site  to redirect
http://site3.mydomain.com <http://site3.mydomain.com> to
www.mydomain.com/.../default.aspx
<www.mydomain.com/.../default.aspx> . That's
how I handle these Vanity URLs. You may be able to do some URL
remapping with something like ISA server, but I would be surprised.

There isn't a SharePoint specific solution to this. Have you looked at
ISA or even IIS? After that you may consider URL-rewriting.
