Quick question. I have a SharePoint 2003 portal. I have enabled siteconfirmation every 90 days. I have a particular user who received the"confirm site usage" email and they are asking why are they receivingthis emails since they are currently using their team site. I havechecked and they modified one document on 2/12 and the notice when outon 2/16.What is being checked to mark a site as inactive? Is it looking forsomething in particular?
SharePoint doesn't check to see if they are active. In fact, it cannotcheck. So, it simply sends email to *all* site collection owners.I probably wouldn't use that functionality.
I call this one of the "cliffs of insanity" screens in SharePoint: Theverbiage on this screen "does not mean what you think it means". Takeout the word "unused" and the re-read the screen. It will be accuratewithout the word "unused". There is no timer in SharePoint PortalServer 2003 to check for unused sites or site collections. It simplysends the e-mail every XX days. The behavior your seeing is bothexpected and by design.
