Manage Users

I have a user that is currently in SharePoint. Jane gets
married and changes her last name to Jane Smith. I made the update to
her account in Active Directory. I removed her from SharePoint and
readded her. When I did that, everything shows up as Jane Smith but when
I go into the Manage Users page, it shows up as Jane Doe. I looked into
the Profiles Database and in the UsersProfile table, I still see an
entry for Jane Doe but no entry for Jane Smith.

Does anybody know what is happening here or how I can update the system
so that it shows her new name?

Where exactly did you add/remove the account, and whoch Manage Users page  are
you looking at (SPS home/area or WSS site)? Each WSS site collection keeps this
information, and the user  must be added/removed at the site collection level for
the new name to appear correctly in WSS sites. SPS should pick up the change
with an remove/add at the top level of the portal.

I'm doing all of this at the SPS level
under Site Settings, Manage Users.

First I remove the account. I then added the new account, everything
shows up fine with her new username. But when I go the Manage Users
page, the old username shows  up again.

The database  didn't update  either.

- which one? The one you add/remove from or one in another location?

I remove abc from the Manage Users page  (I verified to make sure it was
removed). Then I added xyz. SharePoint recognized it as xyz, even
on the page to send out the email, it saw xyz as username = xyz and
email = xyz@.... But when I click finish and it takes me back to the
Manage Users page, it shows  up as abc and not xyz.

You might want to try this for yourself. I tried it on three different domains
with three different portals and I get the same results.

As it turned out, when you remove a user  from SharePoint, it does not remove the
profiles from the UserProfiles table.

Just found this in my notes. The location the user  needs to be remove/add'd
from is actually an unlinked admin page  which controls the site collection users
(the linked Manage users  page is the equivalent of site users in WSS, not site
collection users) for the portal instance. The URL is
http://portalname/_layouts/1033/siteusrs.aspx

yes you are right, i had to developa complete document for adding user, deleting
user and editing there entries, it took me so long, and i still belief that it
needs a lot of work, because a complete workflow has to be there , alot of
administration work
