MAJOR Trouble with SPS 2001 & Outlook 2003

Asked By: Tyler Collins         Date: Oct 19, 2004      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 172

After installing Outlook 2003 (replacing OL 2000 -- so now, except for OutLook, all other MS Office applications are 2000), we can no longer access "Content Sources" under "Management" in webfolder view. An error message box pops up saying:

"You cannot perform this task for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 using client components for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2003. To perfom this task, you must use a computer running client components for SharePoint Portal Server 2001."

Now, after IT installed OL2003, 2001 client was replaced by 2003 client. I have tried installing both 2001 & 2003 clients; removing 2003 client and re-installing 2001 client only; and 2003 client only -- nothing fixes it.

Unfortunately, SPS 2003 is not in our current budget. So can anyone help us with a work-around to allow us access to Content Sources (which is the ONLY thing on SPS 2001 affected by the OL upgrade)?

We found we had to re-install Outlook Express (of all things!) to
make this work.
