Mail Merge Problems w/ Excel doc in Document Library

When trying to do a mail merge in Word, I went to select an Excel
Spreadsheet as my data source. The spreadsheet exists in a team site
document library. When I went through the process of browsing to the
document, I used the "Network Places" to find the document.

When I tried to finalize the data source connection, I got this error:
"The document name or path is not valid." It goes on the tell you to
check your spelling, etc.

Is it not possible to use an Excel document as a data source if it
resides in SharePoint vs. a file share?
