Lost sharepoint central administration server -- recovery options?

Asked By: Umesh Heggade         Date: Feb 13, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 669

This weekend we were moving our Hyper-V instances to a new server using
SCVVM (development environment). Somewhere during this process, our
SharePoint Central Administration server was corrupted, and no longer
boots. We're currently in the process of troubleshooting.... but there's
a chance we're going to be without it. I'm sure it's not as easy as
adding another server in and making it the Central Administration
site....

Actually, if it was just the server  running CA and not the database you can just
run the config wizard on any other server and have it be your CA.

Excellent. This is what I was hoping for. I've just returned from a very
long vacation ...so I'm back to the grind!

Re-running the sharepoint  Products and Technologies Configuration wizard will
allow you to re-host the Central Admin site on a new server  or on a different
port on the existing server without having to re-build the farm.

I've already brought the other server  back online, and
it's good to go!
