Lookup tables and lists

Asked By: Alex    Date: Oct 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2053

One type of column that can exist in a list is of type Lookup and can be based on some element in another list on the same site.

Is it possible to have the lookup list on another site?

For example, I want to put a list in the template for My Site. The list is supposed to be used to record the person's education. In the list there should be one field with predefined values and I would like to administer that list with predefined values from a central location.

SharePoint SDK states, that "The AddLookup method of the SPFieldCollection class
creates a lookup  field in the collection of fields for a list. A lookup field
refers to values  from a field  in another list."

See AddLookup-method under SDK, it has a fine example.

We tried to use this and connect a field  to a lookup  to an other site  but it doesn't work. The Lookup never renders correctly.

Has anyone succesfully achieve this?

As far as I know Lookup can only be associated with a list  in the same site
