Looking for Ideas

We have a Work Orders list that is based on a SPPS 2003 Issues list. I have
written an application that goes through Current Issues and determines how
many open issues there are and which open issues have been open more that
two days. Then the application displays a dashboard with the results. To
save processing time I create a .csv file with the data that has been
gathered and the next time the applcation runs it checks the .csv file and
if it is less than 30 minutes old it euses the data from the .csv file.

This has been working well. Now TPTB want an application that displays a
dashboard that alows them to query for current data, as of today, weekly,
monthly, quarter, etc.

My question is: Which would be more efficient 1. A page with a form that
requests the start date and runs directly against the Object Model or 2. A
page with a form requesting the desitred start date and runs against the
list web service.

If done properly, it shouldn't be significantly different either way -
