Looking for the data name for created by

Asked By: Marie    Date: Oct 13    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 770

i'm looking for the data name for the created by column. long story
short: a 3rd party vendor created a custom web part that aggregates
data from lists that sit on several different sites and 2 different
instances of the portal. it allows me to enter the column data i want
displayed however i need to know the correct data name to display it. i
found this in the ONET.xml file:(Name="Created_x0020_By"). i entered it
but it's not working.

anyone know how i can get the data name for created by?

Try "Author".................................

Generally it goes by the internal name of "Author" but it's a user field so
it won't be straight text but in the form of "#;Name" where # is the ID of
the user on that site. That's the info from the list, but it all depends on
how you're looking this up? I'm not sure what you mean by the "data name"
for a column  (if you're talking about a field name in SQL, then you're
barking up the wrong tree).

PS have you asked this a few times on different newsgroups and mailing
lists? I seem to have seen this asked various ways recently.

I'm still new at this but I'm looking for the eq of the data
name that can be found in the schema.xml file. So let's say you
wanted to create another page that will display  the data  from an
existing list. What would you put in to diplay the lists  Created By

I found this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?
url=/library/en-us/spsdk11/CAML_Schema/spxmlelBaseTypes.asp... which
seems like it's heading in the right direction but when I entered
some of the fields listed in the example code they didn't work. So
I'm wondering if those are the right fields and my custom  web part
isn't working  like it should OR if those aren't the right "names" for
some of the standard fields such as Created By, Created, Modified By,
Modified, etc.

This is the first place I've posted but I'm still researching other
web sites  and groups.

Sorry, I'm not understanding what you're asking. Also, you cannot create
Lookup type fields in a SCHEMA.XML file  as it requires the GUID of the list
you want to lookup into and that's not available until after the parent list
is created.
