Logout!

How do you logout of SharePoint Portal?

This seems like a huge security risk.

Additionally, how do you configure a session timeout?

That is relatively easy to do internally.

This is impossible to do in an Extranet environment considering that
the users of the portal belong to other organizations.

I'm not an administrator, but can't we change session timeout within the IIS 6.0, or from the MetaBase.xml file (AspSessionTimeout="20" default setting).

We put a Logout link on the top Nav Bar for our portal
site, and this works fine for us.

Got this from somewhere on internet. Once this is
done, the Logout link appears in every page within the
portal.

Insert the following to
60\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033\owsbrows.js after the line
"var browseris = new Browseris();"

/* START - Custom Code*/
//Create Logoff Button...
//Bool to check if menu has already been altered
var CNETlogoutOnLoadDone = false;

//Attach to Load event
window.attachEvent("onload", new
Function("CNETLogout_OnLoad();"));

//Handles Addition of "Logout" link to top banner
function CNETLogout_OnLoad()
{
try{

//Check if already altered
if (!CNETlogoutOnLoadDone){

//Get all table cells
var tableCellCol =
document.getElementsByTagName("Td");

//Look for "ms-banner" class - should only be one
for(var i=0;i<tableCellCol.length;i++){

var cellElm = tableCellCol(i);

//If match found...
if (cellElm.className == "ms-banner"){

//Add Link for "Logout"
cellElm.innerHTML += "   <a
href=javascript:CNETLogoff()>Logout</a>";
break;
}

}

//Set altered flag
CNETlogoutOnLoadDone = true;

}

}
catch(e){
//Do Nothing - if it doesn't work then no logout
appears
}

}

//Log off functionality
function CNETLogoff()
{
try
{
if (browseris.ie6up)
{

document.execCommand("ClearAuthenticationCache","false");
alert('You have been logged off from this Web
site. Note that if you run Internet Explorer 6.0
without Service Pack 1 you need to close all browser
windows in order to complete the log off process.');
self.location.href = ".";
}
else
{
alert("This feature requires Internet Explorer 6.0
Service Pack 1 or above. You need to close all browser
windows in order to complete the log off process.");
}
}
catch (e)
{
alert("This feature requires Internet Explorer 6.0
Service Pack 1 or above. You need to close all browser
windows in order to complete the log off process.");
}
}
/* END - Custom Code
