Log out users

I have a web part and have also read the article about adding the
log out button to the top nav bar. While these are good, they do not
quite meet our need. We are currently in the testing phase of
deplying our internal Sharepoint site to the extranet as well. We
have enabled ssl and basic auth. We are running SPS 2003 SP2 and
connecting through an existing websphere reverse proxy, everything
seems to work fine with one exception, if a user logs in the session
credentials do not expire until the browser is closed. If the user
would click the log out button no problem it clears the cached
credentials, however as most know, some users will "forget" to do
this. Which has now brought to the surface the problem of a user
loggin in via a kiosk to the portal site. Because most if not all
kiosks prevent users from closing the browser and if the
user "forgets" to click the log out button the credentials remain
valid. I find it hard to believe that there is not a work around for
this but I have been unable to find one.

Any help or suggestion s would be appreciated, if we can not satisy
our security team reguarding this I am afraid it will kill our
project to deploy it externally.

Can you just set a very short timeout? Rather than the default 20
minutes, how about two minutes?

Are you refering to the time out with in IIS? If so this still does
not kill the credentials. We have also tried to change the Web Page
Security Validation time to 2 minutes, however if you refresh the
page you still do not have to re-enter your credentials.
