Locked documents when logging in with forms authentication

Asked By: Conor    Date: Aug 04    Category: MOSS    Views: 1422

I have a MOSS site with dual authentication. The forms authentication is used
for non domain users to access it over the internet. They can access the site
without a problem and see the documents but they cannot edit them, they can only
open them in read only mode. I have modified their permissions even to full
control and they can do everything in the site but they can still open the
documents (Excel) in read only mode. Can anyone tell me how to allow them to
edit the documents?

FBA requires 2 things to edit  Office documents  in the same way you would
with Windows auth:

1) You must enable Client Integration (disabled by default)

2) Each user must choose the checkbox that will appear on the login
page after doing #1 each time they login

The caveat to all of this is behind the scenes what's going on is this
is setting up a persistent cookie. There are a lot of corporate security
folks that don't like that (for good reason), which why #1 is defaulted
to disabled.
