Lock users from editing db

Asked By: Valencia    Date: Sep 01    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1045

What is the easiest way to prevent users from editing a content db? I still
want them to be able to access it, just not make any changes?

I certainly hope you mean... prevent users  from editing  content in SharePoint.
Nobody should be doing anything directly in the content  DBs. To keep folks from
editing SharePoint content, simply grant them view (visitor) access.

To temporarily lock  down a content  database you can use the Site Collection
Quotas and Locks link in the Application Management page of Central admin.
There are 4 different settings: not locked, Adding content prevented, Read-Only
(content can't be added/changed/deleted), No Access. If you want them to access
it but not add/change/delete content then you want the Read-Only setting.
