Local account versus system account

When we upgraded form wss 2.0 to wss 3.0 we installed the new
sharepoint using the local account. Now we are having difficulty with
the farm synchronizing web sites. I have just created a new application
using the central administration application and it is served fine from
server a but the website has not been created on server b.

Is it possible to change the account that sharepoint is running under?

You would most likely want to go into sharepoint and modify the usernames
and update the passwords through the web interface for your application
pools, SSP, search, etc.

From there you might want to walk through the following KB article to get
your farm passwords up to date across the board:
