Live Communications Server and SharePoint

I'm getting pretty frustrated with Microsoft's documentation, and
thought I'd come here to try and get the straight answers you guys
always give.

We're looking to install Live Communications Server, because I've
heard it adds some nice interactive features to SharePoint. I've
been reading on Google Groups that installing it on the same box as
SharePoint can be somewhat dangerous, though. We have SharePoint off
in its own domain, with three machines - domain controller,
SharePoint server, and SQL server. What's the best way to integrate
Live Communications Server into this environment? We'll just be
starting out with the trial version, to see if we like it.

Additionally, does anyone have a quick list of what, exactly, Live
Communications Server adds to SharePoint? I'm probably just looking
in the wrong places, but I haven't found much on the relationship
between the two products. Any helpful links or articles would be
most welcome!

As for where to deploy LCS I usually tend to leave the PDC (always alone), and the DB server  alone. As for installing  LCS and SPS on the same server I have done this in my development environment  and have not run into any trouble. I have read in the past to install  LCS first if possible. As for a list  of features  and integration points below you will find a download for the LCS 2005 SP1 features article which should help you.
