List view rollup? How??

Asked By: Lyndsey    Date: May 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 5140

I'd like to have several calendar lists roll up into another calendar
list (sub-site calendars to a primary calendar)... can it be done? If
so, how?

Content Query Web Part will allow you to roll  up content from subsites
to parent sites. This is commonly used to rollup  announcements or
calendar items from lower level sites to display on a parent site. It
doesn't rollup the list, just display of the list. Entry of new items
still needs to happen on the child sites.

I would, maybe, take the content query webpart and roll  up other
calendar lists  from child sites... (Maybe hide those webparts from view)
...and then form a connection to the main calendar?

(Or am I being way to complicated in my thinking?)

It's easier than that. Just add the content query webpart to the page
on the top level site. Then Modify its properties to display the
results of a rollup  of all the entires in sub site calendar  lists. You
can do some filtering etc. to add some control or go to a full XPATH
query to completely control what is displayed. No need for any
connections.

It works like a champ pulling all of the information for all of the
Calendar Lists on the sub-sites!

The next question is: How do I get it to display in a Calendar View on
the page where it rolls up to? (AKA Where the Content Querry Webpart
is?...)

I don't think you will be able to do this using the OOB functionality.
Corasworks and Bamboo Solutions have 3rd party solutions that will
roll-up to a calendar  view. You can also do some programmatic
enhancement of the Content Querry Webpart although I don't know if you
would be able to get it to display in a calendar view. Here's the
website with info on how to programmatically adjust the Content Query
webpart.

Would Gerhard be able to connect an Events list  to the rollup  list? He could
then hide the rollup, and display the calendar view  of the Events list.

I haven't played with these enough to know if it's possible.

There are no events that fire on the CBQ Web Part. However, the data
from the child calendars  could certainly be replicated to a central
calendar via an event handler.

Oh, and Bamboo has two parts that can probably do this as well: A Calendar part
and a List View Aggregator... I'm going to download the trial versions and see
if it works.
