Is it possible to create lists with status of the documents at any moment
e.g. all the documents that are checked-out or pending approval etc

Try the document status  web part as a starting point. It will show the
current logged on user the documents  checked out to them or pending  their
approval.

www.microsoft.com/.../doc_status.asp

I have a list  on a subsite that I want to display on another top site
within the same site collection, but I can't add the list to the top
site, how do you do this? Is there a web part I can download or buy
that will display content of a list from another site on that site?

If you are using MOSS, this can be done with a Content Query web part.
Otherwise, you can use a Data View web part (created in either FrontPage
2003 or SharePoint Designer 2007 depending on your SharePoint version).

Try again and set the type of list  it is on the content query web part.
It should work.

The Project Issues list  from the IT Team Workspace template does not
work. I have tried all the types.

Answer #7    Answered By: David Scott     Answered On: Apr 16

That's a custom list  template if memory serves - when you say "doesn't
work" what exactly do you mean? The list is available to pick, it's not
showing all the items, it's not showing all the fields, or ??

It says that it is not configured even though it is configured.

Answer #11    Answered By: Debbie Snow     Answered On: Apr 16

This is what I get. This query has returned no items even though
everything is configured.

check the list  to see if you have anything preventing the items to be seen like
if approval  is turned on in the list. filters on the web part also will do the
same.

Answer #13    Answered By: Lynsey Carver     Answered On: Apr 16

Not sure if that list  have any approvals on it, but there is already
data in the list, so why is the data not coming up on.

Answer #14    Answered By: Richard Allen     Answered On: Apr 16

I need the data displayed on the page, not a linkto the URL

Answer #15    Answered By: Ian Davis     Answered On: Apr 16

Approval is NOT turned on and there are NO filters that I can see

Answer #16    Answered By: Jagjit Hui     Answered On: Apr 16
