List item limit

Asked By: Kristin Turner         Date: Oct 30, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 365

Am I going to run into a problem with the recommended 5000 item limit
per list (or folder in a list), using the Knowledge Base application
template from MS? Over time it will probably surpass that.

Does anyone has a recommendation? This template doesn't seem set up
to use folders easily.

The official "limit" per list  is 2,000 items. BUT, Microsoft has ended
up saying that as long as you don't display more than 2,000 items in
one VIEW, then you'll be okay. The real limit  is somewhere around a
couple of million.

Here's a really good whitepaper that goes into (very technical) detail
about large lists:
go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=95450&clcid=0x409
