List Columns

  Asked By: Prince    Date: Dec 30    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1039

I have a task list that has 10 columns. Only 5 of those columns need to be
displayed when creating a new task and all 10 should be displayed when
viewing/or editing the task. Is it possible to only display the 5 columns when
creating the new task?

You can't do this normally in SharePoint.

However, there is a freeware add-on available that can do this.

SPListDisplaySetting lets you set display/edit permissions for a
list field - http://www.codeplex.com/SPListDisplaySetting

SPViewPermissionSetting lets you set access rights to views and
default view per group - http://www.codeplex.com/SPViewPermission

We have achieved the same by creating  a new feature with required fields.

While creating feature, in schema of fields we will have an option to make them
show in required forms(NewForm, EditForm, DisplayForm) of the list.

ex: <Field ID="{2DD68CCC-0EE0-481c-B473-A8F365FAE50D}"
SourceID="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/v3" StaticName="ProjectName"
Group="Submission Columns" Type="Text" DisplayName="Project Name"
Sortable="FALSE" Description="Enter Project Name"
Sealed="TRUE" Required="TRUE"
UnlimitedLengthInDocumentLibrary="TRUE" AllowDeletion="TRUE"
ShowInFileDlg="FALSE" ShowInEditForm="TRUE" ShowInNewForm="TRUE">

After deploying the feature and activation, from designated TaskList you can add
the deployed fields from Task list  settings, option 'Add from existing site

from 'Select site columns  from' option you can select the deployed column group
(in my case Group="Submission Columns") and select the reuqired fields from
multiple selection box.

I done something very similar, change/specify which columns  show up in an
"edit view" as opposed to the "creat view", so I assume you could do the
opposite. We did this with SPD.

Seach WEB for "custom edit|list views".
