Is there a way to specify the width for displaying each column in a view?

I hacked into this a while back at http://www.sharepointdevelopers.net/SharePoint%20Articles/SettingDisplayLength.aspx.

NOTE: Modifying pages in _layouts is not recommended by Microsoft!

If I remember correctly, someone (probably Heather) posted a CSS solution as well.

I was not able to find it in the discussions or on her site. Does anyone know where to find this CSS solution?

I noticed you mentioned an article about a CSS solution for the SharePoint column  width change, but I cannot find it. Any chance you guys have a link or some information about this? I am trying to figure out how to change this in our implementation.

I don’t think I have anything like this on my site, and I checked Shane’s (the other SharePoint design person) and I don’t see anything on his either.

Are you wanting to set all of the columns to a single, set width? Or do you want to control the widths for each column  individually?

I'm very interested in a general solution to setting the width  of
columns in a SharePoint listview. I thought that only a hard coded
solution could be achieved.
