My Links Summary, Quick Links and Links

Can somebody please explain the differences between My Links Summary,
Quick Links and Links for you? I noticed that when I'm in My Site and I
add links under My Links Summary, the links are also added to the Quick
Links web part in the main portal. Are these interconnected somehow? Can
they be separated? Also, how do you populate the Links for you web part?
