Links to internal servers

Asked By: Joseph    Date: Oct 04    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1533

I have a WSS3 site that is accessible from the internet via SSL through
a mapped IP on my firewall. Most everything works great with the
exception of links to directories on other internal servers. None of
them work (the browser hangs) but links to other internet sites work
fine. When accessing the site from inside the LAN, everything works.

I know I must be missing something on my SP configuration somewhere. I
sure would appreciate any help/advice/links to help me get these links

Look into your Alternate Access Mapping from within Central
Administration. Alternate Access Mappings is a very sensitive animal.

It is located under Operations/Global Configuration/Alternate access

.I'm looking at the Alternate Access Mapping. I'm
assuming that I want to 'Add an Internal URL' to the Internet zone but
it wants a URL. Can I use a UNC statement to point to the directories
on the file server I want to link to?

Actually, you want to create a new Public URL, not an internal  one. For the AAM,
you need to setup the URL that your external users are using when they access
your SharePoint. Including the https part.

I'd try looking closely at your firewall  configuration. If it's working
internally and not externally, then I'd start there. Try accessing  the
internal servers  by address directly from the outside. If you can't, then
you probably need to adjust the firewall.
