link documents to Contact list items

I'm building a CMS in SPS and need to be able to connect documents to
Contact list Items. As the uploaded documents need to be categorised and
as I need to be able to attach e-mails to the Contact list Item, I can't
just use the Attach Document feature. The only solution is to use a
document list. Is this correct?

As these contacts are not portal users, I need to add extra data in the
document repository to be able to filter them out and be able to
categorise them by type (correspondence, contracts, ...). Another
difficulty is tha I need to attach Outlook 2003 e-mail messages to the
Contact Item. I know i can drag and drop them in the document list, but
what would be the best way (read "fool proof" ;-) ) to add the extra
data? I was thinking of creating a folder in the document list for each
Contact Item and store all its documents there. By creating the URL to
the correct location dynamically I can open the document list to the
correct location without any problem. How do I let the user go back to
the page he came from (the page containing the web part with the CMS
data)???? With a regular list you have the "Go back to List" feature,
but this does not exist in the explorer view. :-(

What system do you guys recommend to upload files and e-mails and link
them to Contact Items?
