How can i link 2 custom lists in sharepoint 2003

how can i link 2 custom lists in sharepoint 2003
how link two custom lists in sharepoint. for example say i have a list named
time sheet with different
columns such as name, rate, start time, finish time, etc. i want that
information to automatically be pump in to the second custom list which is named
payroll. for example if the payroll has the same columns such as name, rate, and
total hours. how can i link the two so i wouldnt have to put the same
information multiple times?

you can write an event handler to replicate the details..i know how to do it in
moss07 but not sure in 03

Maybe you can try to add a lookup column, especially a cross-site
lookup column, then you can refer to items in another list.
Have a look at sharepoint  cross site lookup, it may be helpful.
However, just have a try.
