Limiting a search scope

Asked By: Bob    Date: Sep 01    Category: MOSS    Views: 887

I have 14 site collections all on one server. One of these site
collections will serve as an intranet portal. On this portal, I would
like to limit the search to that portal only. I do not want any other
portals included or an of our file crawls to be included. I am using
MOSS. Is this possible?

Yes, you can do this via site  Scopes. Setup a search  scope in the
Shared Service Provider that matches the base URL for the site
collection, then edit the search settings in the site collection itself
to only use/display that scope  (and probably the people scope as well
unless you don't want people search either).

I do want to enable people search  on this site collection?

Under Site Collection Administration, click search  Scopes. This will
bring up the administration UI for search scopes, from here you can
control which scopes are available in the site collection. Those scopes
that were created in the SSP should be listed automatically, but may or
may not be active. You can also create new scopes there as well if

I think I have it working now. Just one of my sites has a
different master page and it is not working as desired, but I will keep
on plugging.
