Limitations of AD Security Groups?

Asked By: Luz Blake         Date: Mar 09, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 327

We've implemented Microsoft's recommendation of adding Active Directory security
groups to the SharePoint groups for securing site/content per this article:
technet2.microsoft.com/.../f27effc6-5e57-42c1-8f\
31-15a9f50e794e1033.mspx?mfr=true

We also want to use these SharePoint groups for audience targeting, People and
Groups lookup columns (list field = people picker), etc. Apparently this does
not work, according to this KB article:
support.microsoft.com/default.aspx

Has anyone found a workaround to this? I'm afraid that we'll need to go back to
adding individual users to the SharePoint group and developing some sort of
synching job to make sure the AD security group and the SharePoint group are
always in synch.

You could try making them Universal Groups. I believe (don't remember
exactly) that we got that to work.
