How to leverage Advanced Search in Sub-Sites?

  Asked By: Sandy    Date: Aug 29    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1024

How would we go about using Advanced Search for a handful of sub-sites
of a Site Collection? For example, the way we have our environment
setup is as such:

Site Collection 1
* Team Site (Accounting)
* Team Site (Purchasing)
* Team Site (IT)
* Team Site (Marketing)

Site Collection 2
* Project Site (Project A)
* Project Site (Project B)
* Project Site (Project C)
* Project Site (Project D)

Obviously each of these sub-webs are able to search within their own
Site, Lists and any Search Scopes made available to them from the
Search Center by using the standard Search box at the top of the page.
And when you click on the Advanced Search option you're brought to
the Search Center which will only search Scopes (if configured) and
All Sites.

Is there a way to setup an Advanced Search for each of these sub-webs
so that the Marketing Team Site has its own Advanced search area that
is different than Accounting's Advanced search area? So then the
Advanced Search area for each of these sites would only search its
given site and perhaps other custom Search Scopes that were
configured? This allows more flexibility for searching these given
sub-webs especially since you could define the custom site columns as
searchable using the Property Picker.
