I want to add a link in the left-panel of particular document library.

To add new link ,i will have to write code into schema.xml. but how to modify schema.xml file?

If it is just for a particular document  library, you don't want to edit
the SCHEMA.XML file. That would alter every document library. Can you
just add  it to the link  bar using FrontPage?

If you're talking specifically about a doc lib, you can add  it to the left  Quick Launch bar using the web UI:
1. Modify settings and columns

2. Change general settings

3. Navigation
Specify whether a link  to this document  library appears in the Quick Launch bar on the home page.
Display this document library  on the Quick Launch bar?
Yes No
4. OK
