Left Navigation Menu required

Asked By: Herman    Date: Oct 14    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2081

I have a requirement in which we have to add left side navigation menu (in fly out style). COuld someone help me in how to accompplish this, i.e, how do we write a web part to accomplish the same. Also, can we embed any standard .aspx + Javascript code into a webpart and make it happen ?

I have had experience with a company called corasworks
which develops an application for this (and more). Has
site, sub site and list treeview on left  for easy
navigations. It is pricey (over 10k for complete suite)
but depends on your overall plan as it includes otehr
stuff. Works well for navigation  but
they have roll ups of items for dashboard type roll ups.
for just navigations tho wouldnt be worth it.

Otherwise, you can do it with a web  part and it will work
fine. just takes a little time. webfox.ca will do special
orders like this.

Try using SPSite and SPWeb to create site object then
methods to list sites within current context site..

Anyways, to answer your question, yes, you can use a
webpart to make this happen, javascript  is not needed but
can be used to make it prettier maybe, but not even
necessary. just .net..

what language do you know?
you want a left  navigation that will hold a web  part which

My replies are inline :

I know both VB.Net and C#, for this project, we are using C#.

>> Correct, it should be like fly  out menus on mouse hovering events. Also, It will be nice if we can add/remove items from this menu  dynamically without tweaking the code.

Which part  of the code  would you need? are you able to
iterate through all sites already?

its pretty much 3-4 loops,
define the spvirtualserver
one for each SPSite,
one for each SPWeb in each SPSite and
one for each SPList in each SPWeb and SPSite.

let me know which part you are at and hopefully i can
