Left hand navigation "stretched" on some clients

Asked By: Marcus Peterson         Date: Sep 22, 2003      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 2344

We are seeing a very odd effect in some of our WSS sites and in some parts of SPS portal.

Some users experiences have changed seemingly overnight. We are starting to get reports from a handful of users that the left hand navigation bar within Portal areas is now twice as wide as before. On some (not all) of the clients with this problem there is a second problem with the "modify shared page" text not giving a popup menu when clicked.

We think that this is either

A) Combination of OS/Browser build in conjunction with patch/SP status

And/or combined with

B) something to do with CSS corruption

We are really at a loss as to how this is happening as we think b) is out….a new portal on same server using default CSS presents the same problem.

Anyone got any ideas where to start…...

Sometimes it is nice to be able to answer you own questions.

We have seen that this is caused by some clients  with browser security settings set to HIGH in the zone that the site is classified in. This causes problems in

1) displaying the wordart (why????) of the Sharepoint portal  Server logo down the left  hand side of the main portal area navigation

2) displaying the drop down box on "Modify Shared Page"
