Is there a way to run a report against a document library and find out a listing of all documents, and date that they were last modified?

Yes (if I understand your question correclty). Its a two minute effort - create a new view with things that you want in your report  (like names and modified  date). Its a live report that you can export to Excel as well and keep it fresh.

You can certainly include the Modified field in any List View. Is that
what you mean?

We have thousands of documents  in multiple subdirectories. And you
have to do a seperate export for each directory. Is there another way
besides the export to spreadsheet tool in the lefthand column.
Is there a way to do a site-wide report  of all the documents?

We are working on a tool that will do this and more. Stay tuned for
details in the coming weeks.........
