Using javascript with infopath

Asked By: Cary    Date: Apr 04    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2750

I have got a InfoPath form that is published to a Form Library in a
Sharepoint Site. I have got a hyperlink on the form that says "Go to
Discussion". These discussions are although different for each form but
are present in the same discussion forum on the same site. Now comes the
part where I am stuck.

* When somebody is filling up the form for the first time and
clicks on the link "Go to Discussion", it should open up a new
discussion page for the user.
* When somebody is viewing the filled up form and clicks on the
link "Go to Discussion", it should take him to the already existing
discussion for the form.

I am pretty new to InfoPath and just could get the first part working by
giving a direct URL to "create a new discussion" page for the first
point. But the issue(s) that come with the second point are

* How to know that the form is being viewed and when "Go to
Discussion" is clicked, the already existing discussion for this
particular form should be opened?

After contemplating these further issues I thought that maybe the
solution to the first point itself is not appropriate (giving a direct
URL). Maybe we need to have some JavaScript running behind the form that
does the job. But the object that InfoPath provides is very scarce (to
my knowledge). Can somebody provide me insight on how to overcome these
blockades?

Please let me know your thoughts and solutions if any. All inputs are
welcome.
